Thank you for your help, Panagiotis! I followed your instructions and was able to reinstall cTrader. After creating two additional instances using the Multiple Profiles option, I loaded their respective workspaces and was glad to see that the problem was solved. Thumbs up!

All the best, Jens

RE: RE: HighMinusLow Indicator

I regularly keep track of daily price movements in my collection of 45 charts. So far I simply measure manually the highs and lows for a given day. This is not very precise and also tedious work every morning. As I am not in a position to programm the HighMinusLow() function myself, I wonder if somebody has already done so and would like to share this little indicator with the community. I should be thankful for any comments.

Jens

Hi Jensnig, a simple version can be found at the following link:

Thank you for your suggestion, Symposion. I wasn't aware of the fact that HighMinusLow() was already available as an indicator ready to be used. But it doesn't do the job I had in mind.

What I want is a function that returns the actual pip amount a given asset moves on a daily basis. The resulting number of pips should also take into account any possible gap-up or gap-down at the beginning of each trading day. That would mean previous last closing price if out of range of the following day's price movement. The pip result should be printed somewhere on the chart for each daily period. Any idea if someone has already done this?

So far I collect my daily pip numbers manually and enter them in a spreadsheet where I can easily identify historic highs, lows and their monthly median values. This provides useful statistics as a trading support. Would be great to have a little bot that collects the data for this purpose.

Regards, Jens

HIi globalblack,

You can add basic protection to pending orders. Advanced protection is not in our immediate plans.

Ok. but is there a reason to why such a features which could appear and could appear simple to implement is not in ur immediate plans or ever implemented before? I mean the reason i ask is cTrader is my platform of choice and has implemented alot of by far superior features already compared to the current competition and this features i just mentioned should be a piece of cake by you guys to implment

I absolutely agree. Advanced Protection should be further improved and even made a server application. It would be an important selling point against competition.

I think its totally unnecessary having to highlight in bold marks anytime the mouse is on an object. It is distracting and hinders precise placement.

I absolutely agree!

Hello sir, so there is no way that I can really plot lines and save it on the chart. This is sad. but thnx for the info

Hi, why don't you save your work by regularly saving your workspace? I have done this for years. It's a good practice that even allows you to save different versions of your work. I usually save all my workspaces even twice before I close cTrader.

Good Luck, Jens

Hi,

Is that possible to backup all the workspace that I hv saved?

I encountered a problem before,  suddenly all my saved workspace are missing,  all the drawings in my saved currency pairs including all the support and resistance lines,  channels,  wedges,  trendlines and comments are gone.

If we can backup our workspace and reload it when needed,  then it will be great.

I do my own backup before I close workspaces. Just save workspace under a different name so you have a second copy.

There should be an option to hide/show both left and right panels in detached windows. That would help greatly.

Hi Panagiotis,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I now understand why this can't be fixed, and it's good to know your Advanced Protection function runs as a client process. Let me thank you and your team for this fabulous function which allows users to semi-automate important stop-loss and take-profit tasks. So far I have tried to achieve these tasks manually. Now this is a lot easier and less error-prone.

It would, however, be very nice if your Advanced Protection function could be integrated in, or merged with your Modify Position dialog. As of now, both dialogs are mutually exclusive which is not as smooth as it could be.

Regards,

Jens

RE: Faulty workspace Management in v 3.5

Hi mark.lite,

Thanks for posting in our forum

1. This works as designed.

2, 3. We could not reporoduce these issues. Is it possible to send us a short video demonstrating the steps you follow to reproduce them?

Best Regards,

Panagiotis

Hi Panagiotis,

As I noted in my reply to mark.lite's observations (1), I have also been stressed by that new behavior ever since cTrader Desktop 3.5 was released. Since my first blog thread from Sunday July 7th never appeared under "Suggestions" (maybe that was the wrong place to post), I should like to expand on this a bit more from my perspective.

My main trading platform is a desktop computer with three screens, where I usually have 27 charts displayed in detached mode, carefully arranged in meaningful rows and columns. I frequently save this workspace as WS_TRADING and WSS_TRADING (safety copy). Now this workspace wouldn`t work well on a smaller notebook with just one screen. Therefore I defined another workspace WS_NBOOK customized for this notebook, that is easy to use when displayed. But this is no longer the case.

Before version 3.5, your cloud management correctly remembered what workspace was last used on a specific computer. So when I started cTrader on that computer on another day, it would display the correct workspace in use when I last closed the session. Even now I can observe how the last used workspace is initially loaded. But on the second pass in this loading procedure, this will be overwritten by the workspace that was last used globally on my cTID. Typically I will then get 27 detached charts on my little screen...

Apart from the two workspaces mentioned, I also use WS_MPAD (for an additional notebook) and occasionally WS_ANALYSIS, WS_REVIEW for special purposes. All these workspaces are specifically designed for their uses. Before version 3.5, this worked beautifully. Now I have to scramble to get things going every morning. What a mess!

Using this system of specific workspaces with their own backup copies has been very valuable to me, as cTrader does not provide any safety net for human error. If I accidentally click on the X-symbol of a chart, it will be gone forever with all my marks, notes and objects. It has happened more than once in the past few years. In these cases, an undo function is desperately needed. At least, a standard confirnation dialog would help avoid this kind of unnecessary blunder.

So Panagiotis, if you could have this behavior changed as it was previously designed, I should be very grateful. Otherwise, I remain a big cTrader fan. Best wishes, Jens

RE: Faulty workspace Management in v 3.5

mark.lite said:

Decided to write a post since these bugs that my Windows desktop platform has now, are not going away sine the last big update..

1. Loading wrong Workspace on start:

I have a few machines with different monitors that run as different instances but the same cTrader account. Every time I start cTrader, it loads Workspace that was last used disregarding the machine. Lets say I have "Workspace1" on my main trading station, and "Workspace2" for the additional pc. Before cTrader remembered which Workspace I was using on that particular machine and was loading it on start, but now it just loads the same workspace everywhere on start disregarding the machine, and I have to manually switch them. It used to remember the workspace used on the particular machine before the update...

2. Template not loading properly on start:

Sometimes when I start the cTrader, and switch to the appropriate Workspace(see bug 1), the chart is empty and only has the MAs on it. The rest objects are missing until I load the Template manually. In particular: the "Heiken Ashi candles" object is missing sometimes until I reload the Template.

3. Can't add alarm

Sometimes when I decide to add an alarm (5-15 pips away from the current price), by pressing the bell on the right and clicking the chart: it disabled the "Create Alarm" green button in the pop up window, so I have to close the window and do it again (on the same price point) until it allows to place the alarm.

These are the most common bugs i experience after the last interface upgrade.

Mark, thank you very much for your notes under point 1. Two days ago, I tried to describe the same faulty behavior in a new suggestion thread, but it never appeared there. I use 5 workspaces (+5 backup copies) on three machines regularly, and it is now quite a pain to start my cTrader instances. So Panagiotis, please correct this!

Absolutely agreed! This is even exacerbated by the fact that there is no safety net enabling the user to undo his/her deleting a chart inadvertantly.

First let me commend and congratulate the coders at cTrader/cAlgo for a really great product.  It's really an order of magnitude of improvement over MT4 in many ways.  The chart trading feature is the one I like the best, also the execution, the liquidity, and the spreads.  But since I use a lot of pitchfork analysis, with the use of reaction lines, I may have to do my analysis on a separate platform, and trade on cTrader.  If you folks were able to provide more trendline capability w/alerts, I would surely pay a subscription fee similar to the packages available at fxalgotrader.com.  Lots of people use trendlines and the ability to alarm a trendline crossover will reduce screen 'stare time' enormously.  I, for one, would be happy to help fund development of trendline alert capabilities.  Maybe others feel the same way.  Let's do a vote and see what features are most sought after.

Great idea, I would also endorse a vote on this.
