The documentation does not tell anything about calling the methods of an external C/C++ library (dll).

  • Does it work at all? (e.g. using P/Invoke)
  • Where should the external dll be copied to?
  • When would this information (along with some short tutorial) be added to the documentation?

See this example for P/Invoke and external dll calls:

P/Invoke Example

The provided link produces a 404 error - are there any instructions or examples on external DLL use in the documentation?  I'm not seeing them.

Thank you for your great suggestions. We will consider all of them.

... and this is why I have great confidence in the future of cTrader :)

I have to add - It really appears the designers are not traders, colors and precise traders adjustments are severely lacking.

I don't know, you may well be right, but (unlike MT4) I'm really encouraged by the forum they provide for suggestions, voting on ideas and so on - even to the point of a feedback mechanism within the software itself.  That gives me a lot of confidence that cTrader/cAlgo will eventually become one of the prime forex trading platforms.

Anyway, to add to my suggestions above:-

Its just soooo easy to accidentally close a chart.  Imagine you've spent hours on analysis involving drawing dozens of rectangles for support/resistance, trendlines etc, plus the addition of various arrows etc over time & notes on where your trades were taken and why.  Then you accidentally click the X button instead of the tab of the next chart ... and all your work is gone forever.  Two suggestions: A confirmation dialog, and the ability to set the default for that chart.  Once set, even if you close it you could open that chart again & have it return with all your objects intact.

5. Indicators also need the MT4 feature of being able to specify on which timeframes they're displayed.

This should be available for Objects as well.

True, but in MT4 I can load historic data of my own going back as far as I want and use it to run backtests.  In cAlgo/cTrader I cannot.

It seems strange to me that this software is so well designed facilitate creation of complex and powerful robots, yet a deliberate decision's been made to prevent them being effectively tested.  I don't want to be hostage to the amount of data a broker provides, I want as a trader and EA developer to control my own backtest data.  In fact, this is a key sticking point for me in the adoption of this platform - I can't justify putting long hours in developing Robots (and converting my existing MT4 EAs) when I can't backtest them to my satisfaction.

Spotware, I want to switch from MT4 to cTrader, I really do - but this issue is a deal breaker.

Sorry to revive an old thread, thought it better than starting a new one.

I have historical M1 data going back 10 years, is it possible to import this into cAlgo so I can use it for backtesting?  1 Year is a very short timespan, and with lower timeframes I'm only seeing a few months of data there which is nowhere near enough for a valid backtest.

Just wanted to bump the thread, as it seems MetaQuotes with build 500 of MT4 has basically given the finger to third party developers and service providers - and in doing so have shown they couldn't care less about brokers or traders either.  Its the approach that Apple took in the 1980s, which is why over 90% of our computers run a Microsoft operating system.

If ever there's a window of opportunity for an alternative platform such as cTrader to step forward and take a large chunk of the marketplace its now.  As I said in my first post, its a chicken & egg problem - traders are wary of MetaQuotes and would like to move, but to where?  Were cTrader to provide an easy way of converting MT4 indicators/EAs, brokers offering cTrader would be swarmed with customers downloading demos, this forum's userbase would quadruple, and other brokers would start knocking on your door asking about licensing terms.  If cTrader isn't the first to do this you can bet your life that the developers of some other platform will...

This is very good idea and we think about such converter. But for now we are not sure that it's possible to do conversion automatically. And we do not any specific plans to implement it in the nearest future.

I'm glad that you're considering it.  It'd certainly be a very aggressive move towards gaining a greater slice of the market.

It wouldn't be possible to auto-convert any indicators/EAs that used DLLs of course, but in theory those that purely use MQ4 should be possible shouldn't they?  Its a closed language with a limited feature set and a fixed way of working - wouldn't it be a matter of finding equivalent frameworks & API calls in cAlgo's C#?

If it were to be done, it'd be much better for cAlgo to develop it than a 3rd party, who would probably charge either for the tool or for converting things.
