[Suggestion 30][Clarification on Download Size vs Installed Size Discrepancy]
22 Jan 2025, 22:06
Hi,
1. Context:
1.1 After running the cTrader installer "ctrader-spotware-setup.exe" (version cTrader Desktop 5.1.11), it can be seen in the image that the downloaded file size is 90.6 MB.
1.2 However, after installation, the total size of the “cTrader” folder increases to 174 MB and a "dotnet" folder with a size of 201 MB appears.
1.3 Additionally, it has been noticed that the installer places a file named “7zr.exe” in the temporary folder, suggesting that a decompression process takes place during installation.
2. Problem:
The installation guide does not currently provide details about the discrepancy between the download size and the installed size.
Users may have the following questions:
2.1 Does the 90.6 MB download include only the cTrader Desktop (Windows) version 5.1.11 or does it also contain dependencies ?
2.2 What additional components are extracted or downloaded during installation ?
2.3 How much disk space is ultimately required for the full installation ?
3. Proposed solution:
It would be beneficial to update the installation page with additional details, such as:
3.1 An explanation of the compression and extraction process used by the installer (e.g., the role of 7zr.exe
).
3.2 A breakdown of what contributes to the size increase after installation.
3.3 A clear distinction between what is included in the initial download package and what might be downloaded separately during installation (e.g., .NET runtime).
Adding these details will enhance user understanding of the installation process and storage requirements.
4. What do you think about this suggestion ?
