[Bug report 11][Unnecessary Temporary Folders Created on Each Launch of cTrader Desktop]
25 Jan 2025, 20:03

Hi,

1. Description:

1.1 After performing a clean installation of cTrader Desktop (Windows) 5.1.11, every time I open the cTrader Desktop application, a new directory with a random name is automatically created in C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Temp\.

1.2 Each of these directories contains an identical file named 7zr.exe (7-Zip Reduced Standalone Console).

This behavior occurs consistently with every launch of the application.

It seems to be related to an extraction process, possibly involving temporary files or archives, which are unnecessary to recreate at every launch, especially after the installation phase is completed.

2. Steps to Reproduce:

2.1 Perform a clean installation of cTrader Desktop (Windows) 5.1.11.

2.2 Open (without logging in) and close the cTrader Desktop multiple times.

2.3 Check the directory C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Temp\ for newly created random-named folders, such as “3noyh1d5.h1y”, “hupvvkdq.1kr”, and others.

3. Expected Result:
Temporary files and folders should not be created repeatedly upon every launch unless necessary and they should be cleaned up automatically to prevent clutter.

The 7zr.exe file and associated folders should not appear after the installation phase.

4. Actual Result:
Each launch of cTrader Desktop creates a new temporary folder with the 7zr.exe file, leading to unnecessary storage consumption and potential performance issues.

5. Additional Notes:
Please investigate if this behavior is intentional or an unintended issue related to file extraction processes, as this leads to redundant file creation and could be affecting application performance.

6. Environment:

  • cTrader Desktop version: 5.1.11.36230
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro
