Huge spreads on BTCUSD

I'd assume on a thickly traded stock that the spreads would be lower? Coinbase also says the spreads are usually below a dollar, however (demo) trading with CTrader I get spreads of around ~30 dollars? To me this is insane, trading on the US100 gives me lower spreads, but 30 dollars on BTCUSD?? Weird.
