Mobile app - older version apk available for download?
18 Jul 2018, 04:01

Today I have received the android cTrader update and I must say I was shocked. Not only that the application upgraded while I had 2 open positions, it also logged me off and after I logged back in the whole environment was totally messed up and completely changed.

Sorry to say that but the new mobile app was getting worse and worse recently but the latest version (2.7+) is a joke. Do you realize guys that we use it for traing our real money???

Anyways. The app is now totally useless for me. I was serching the Internet for any older version so that to return back to something which was not ideal but, at least, somehow worked. But I couldn't find anything.

Is there any way of getting the previous APK version from you? My broker is Pepperstone UK (as I guess this matters)  and they say they don't have it and directed me to you (Spotware)

Thank you

Hi Panagiotis,

hard to beleive that you would permanently delete all of your previous versions. Of course older versions ARE available, you just don't want to make it accessible for some reason. But why would you do that? What's a problem with using an older version until the new one is improved to the usable state? What made you destroy (somewhat) working app and replace it by so much worse product??

I aggree, the new version of the mobile is worst, at least let us choice which features we need and which we don't in the app. For example, why you remove the 'chart' option when i look at my position? I wanna see at the chart where my position is and now i need to search the pair manually from my watchlist , so annoyin. 2. Why did you remove the black theme? I like it more then the white one.. Also you can add auto breakeven and advanced sl to the moblie app. Regards.

Dear all, we provide app via standard AppStore and Google Play distribution channels.

They don't have the concept of an older version and will never have.

Old app version was based on technologies we don't use anymore in production, it was outdated and was not getting any new features.

And we build the new app from ground zero. The downside of this is that we cannot deliver all features older version had at once.

Our plan is to release new version per month and get older features back one by one.

For instance Positions on Charts are back! Pepperstone will get this with 2.8 version in a couple of weeks.

You can download Spotware cTrader app and see the future - for this app we deliver features 1 month ahead of version for brokers.

2. Dark theme is super, I agree. We want to get it back too. But since we have now a native mobile app, it will take more time. We need to do this by guidelines and in a native way.

Please keep giving us feedback and feature request. This will help to prioritize development.

Best regards,

Denis Voloshko

Hi Denis,

thank you for your explanation and reasoning behind such a radical change of your mobile trading app. I can understand you needed/wanted to change the concept which probably limited the further development and had to be changed.

However, what about if I did not update my app automatically and still used the previous version? Does it mean my app would have stopped working without any warning and despite having opened positions? I hope not because that would make your solution very unpredictable and untrustworthy for the future. On the other hand, if this wouldn't be the case and I could still use the older version for trading even today then I cannot see any reason why I could not return to using the same old version if you just provided the apk file directly (not via the app store).

Actually I was able to google and install the older version for the Pepperstone Group Limited app and that one still works just fine so the backoffice technology does not seem to have changed that much. I just was not so lucky about the Pepperstone Limited (London based users), which I need. (I can only use demo account on the former)

Anyways, I can see a major informational deficit towards the end users and regarding the trading system updates which makes me start rethinking my eartlier decision to use cTrader platform as this is totally unacceptable when it comes to a trading app. My current balance was very low but I would think twice trading any larger portfolio now with cTrader. If you want to keep your end users then you really need to review this approach.

As for the features I miss and would like to see back again (well you should never release an app with less features in the first place), here comes my list (all features existed before):

- positions on the chart
- dark theme and customization
- drawings on the chart (common, trading app without any possibility to draw lines???)
- customizable indicators (many options are now missing, not mentioning the color customizations - whithout which the chart becomes a mess in a minute, like all MAs using the same color, Bollinger Bands with all 3 lines using the same color)
- double-tap trading (not a single-tap which is quite a hazardous nonsense on a mobile!)
- more efficient screen layout - in general, there's much less information fit on the sceen now (e.g. 3 symbols on the watchlist instead of 6, overview chart too small and cannot be resized etc.etc. I know this applies the newer material desing language but the practicality suffers)

There would be many more but this is the core

Vitore

Hi Vitore,

I would like to make some comments on the subject of communication and update process.

Regarding communication, we agree with you that efficient communication is a must in this business sector. First of all, I need to stress out that traders are not our direct clients but they are clients of their brokers. Not all brokers wish that we contact their clients directly neither we have the explicit authorization from traders to do so. Spotware communicates all changes in cTrader platform to brokers in an efficient and timely manner. Brokers are responsible to propagate all the relevant information to their clients.

However we understand that theory is one thing and practice is another. Therefore during the last year we have taken a lot of measures to allow traders to find the information they need regarding cTrader, at least in an indirect way. Some of them are

  1. We created a full time community management team that responds to trader queries via all available channels in a very reasonable time.

  2. We post all important information regarding cTrader in the forum announcements and what’s new sections.

  3. We update our Spotware Public Beta applications at least a month before rolling out to brokers allowing traders to try them out and provide their feedback.

  4. We are communicating all upcoming changes to all traders that have explicitly gave their consent to contact them and send them such information.

We are also open for any further suggestions that will allow you to receive all information in time.

Regarding our upgrade policy, I will agree with you that the latest upgrades of all applications have imposed drastic changes to the way users use cTrader. We have redesigned and re-architected all applications. But these were necessary changes that now allow us to bring the platform up to date and use latest technologies, build a new philosophy around trading and develop all these features that have been queued for years. From now and on, and for the years to come, updates will be more incremental and frequent, allowing you to adopt new features and changes gradually in your daily trading activities.

Best Regards,

Panagiotis
