Has anyone ever made profit using algo trading?
02 Aug 2013, 17:05

Hi,

Just out of curiosity - the platform is great, programming robots for it is easy and straightforward, but....

Has anyone ever created a robot that would deliver constant returns in whatever backtests would be thrown at it?

I'm experimenting with different strategies and it seems that there is always some period for which a given strategy works but in the long run they never last.

Peter

Hi hichem,

nice curve and good profit so far, hopefully the drawdown will stay stable. Win / loss ratio is very consistent by looking trhough the trades. A real account is a big plus.

What kind of risk & money management protection do you have outside the stop loss and target per single positions?

Hello,

Actually it is a hedged grid system. I don't use Stop Loss, Only take profits.

For protection :

- small lot sizes, relative to Balance

- High Leverage 1:500 thus small margin even for many open postions to keep Free margin close to equity.

- I use a C#  library I have developed to protect th robot against lost connections and failed trade requests, so the system can run 24h with little intervention

- Have tested the system on Demo for 4 months

Hi. My current robot now works in longer phases sideways quite well - only little loss (see graph). At least in the last 12 months ...
With high volatility / short-term trends (short / long) he is making good profits. Several months of the year should therefore be very profitable for gold trading. For about three weeks I am using a live account and it looks pretty good. Hopefully it stays that way...

Right on! cAlgoFx,

takes a long time and dedication for trading, to develop a robot, that maybe will stand the test of time. However algorithms fails at times and changes need to be made during this process, especially in live trading and after the real life testing has been done to validate the script . It should not discouarage futher development to make the algorithm perform better. It might be even an advantage to face some draw backs in the early stages, so improvements can be made to the code.

I have a dynamic grid martingale system that works on all pairs.     Still testing, but getting ready to unleash it on real money soon.

Most of pictures show properly the points of open/close position, but... this one? Trade SELL descripion - LOSS, on the picture - PROFIT (sell and fall). Where from is this picture?

I was about to buy the Scyware Hedged Grid... But it looks like this is only working sometimes and would bust your account eventually. I guess that's why you deleted your system on MyFXBook, right?... The URL above says: "Sorry, but this system was deleted by it's creator."

Hedge Grid systems

Every Hedge grid system including Martingale cBots has a high risk of involvement for the trader. This does not mean that the systems will not preform as expected, it only means other protections and precautions has to be in place to protect the trading account while running these cBots. Money management is a must and by combining this with an overall protection the outcome can be very profitable for the trader. More can be read about protection at RMMRobot.com.
